Scentre Group named among the sustainability Sector Leaders by GRESB in 2021

Scentre Group is pleased to announce that it has been named one of the Sector Leaders by GRESB for its sustainability leadership in 2021.

Scentre Group has received Global Sector Leader, Overall Global Sector Leader and Overall Regional Sector Leader for Retail in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment – Development Benchmark.

Each year, GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance of assets worldwide, providing clarity and insights to financial markets on complex sustainability topics.

The GRESB Assessments are guided by what investors and the industry consider to be material issues in the sustainability performance of asset investments and are aligned with international reporting frameworks, goals and emerging regulations. The GRESB ESG Benchmark grew this year to cover more than $6.4 trillion of assets under management, up from $5.3 trillion the year before.

GRESB data is used by hundreds of capital providers and thousands of asset managers to benchmark investments across portfolios and to better understand the opportunities, risks and choices that need to be made as the industry transitions to a more sustainable future.

The GRESB Sector Leader Awards recognizes real estate and infrastructure companies, funds and assets that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in sustainability each year. Scentre Group participated in the Real Estate Assessment, obtaining Sector Leader Designation.

“Across the globe, organizations are demonstrating a deep commitment to ESG integration while making important strides towards a more sustainable future for us all,” said Sebastien Roussotte, CEO of GRESB. “Sector Leaders are the organizations setting the pace and driving progress toward a net zero future. We are proud to recognize your determination, achievement, and leadership in creating a more sustainable world.”
Scentre Group CEO Peter Allen said he was pleased by the sustainability leadership recognition from GRESB.
“We consider responsible, sustainable business a key part of our strategy and ambition to grow,” Mr Allen said.
“This leadership recognition comes at a time when we are making progress on our target and pathway to reach net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 across our wholly-owned portfolio.

“We recently provided an update on our pathway, announcing an interim target to achieve at least 50% of this target by 2025.

“Our net zero pathway builds on our existing environmental targets and asset energy efficiency initiatives such as LED lighting installation across our portfolio of Westfield Living Centres and energy analytics and building management system enhancements, as well as water and waste initiatives, targeted renewable energy generation and procurement opportunities.

“We will continue to evaluate and roll-out onsite solar opportunities as well as continue to assess off-site renewable energy procurement opportunities.

“Our New Zealand portfolio of Westfield Living Centres will be powered by 100% renewable electricity from January 2022.”

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and communities of the lands on which our business operates.

We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to their Elders past and present.

We recognise the unique role of Māori as Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
