Addressing the Shopping Centre News Big Guns lunch in Sydney today, Scentre Group Chief Operating Officer, Greg Miles, welcomed the news that Westfield Chermside had become the first and only centre in Queensland to reach annual retail sales of over $1 billion.
“It is clear that extraordinary retail is strong, vibrant and growing, with today’s results from Shopping Centre News confirming there are now six centres in Australia with Moving Annual Turnover (MAT) in excess of $1 billion,” he said.
“It’s terrific to see that four of those six centres are Westfield living centres and we’re very excited that Westfield Chermside has become the first and only centre in Queensland to reach annual retail sales of over $1 billion.
“We completed a $355 million redevelopment of Westfield Chermside in 2017, transforming the centre into the premium leisure destination for Brisbane’s north.
“Last year, Westfield Chermside was shortlisted for the 2018 global World Architecture Awards in Amsterdam and showcased alongside developments from Miami to Shanghai and Tokyo, in education, mixed-use, hotels, hospitality, landscape and sustainability.
“The centre was also awarded 2018 Queensland Retail Property of the Year by the Property Council of Australia, collecting category awards for Excellence in Food Retailing and Design.
“I am also pleased to say that seven of the top 10 centres and 15 of the top 25 centres in Australia by MAT are Westfield living centres.
“The strength of these results confirms that our efforts to curate a tailored mix of retail, consume-on-site, and experience offers that meet our customers’ expectations is what sets us apart,” he said.
