Anthony Scaffidi tells us what enticed him to return
The culture of our business and capability of our team are intrinsically linked because our culture is a key reason for attracting new, high-performing talent and retaining our existing team members.
“We’re focused on creating a culture which means we are the place for talent to thrive. There are multiple threads to achieving that, our Diversity & Inclusion program, building a culture of everyday recognition and celebrating our SCG Heroes, comprehensive training programs, and our 3+1 goals setting and alignment process to ensure we’re providing people with feedback and clarity around their career progression,” says Janine Frew, Scentre Group’s HR Director.
"I’m really pleased to say that all of this work has resulted in 86% of people who leave us saying they would be open to return in the future, and 10% of our new hires year to date actually being Westfield and Scentre Group alumni returning into permanent roles with us – which is huge."
One such returning alumni is Anthony Scaffidi, Regional Leasing Manager.
Anthony spent five years with Scentre Group’s Leasing team as a Project Leasing Executive before leaving the business in 2007.
“The truth is, I never really wanted to leave Westfield. I was based in Melbourne but I’m originally from Perth and wanted to relocate back home, so it just wasn’t the right time for me to stay,” says Anthony.
With a hiatus from the business of 12 years, Anthony spent time at a number of real estate businesses, before becoming one of the 10% of alumni and returning to Scentre Group as a Regional Leasing Manager.
Anthony continues, “Coming back to Scentre Group has been a real buzz for me. I’ve worked in the leasing industry a while now and there’s more passion and pride for what we’re doing here than anywhere else I’ve worked – and working with like-minded people who have similar goals and work ethic is really important to me.
“While the heritage of our business, the scale of our Westfield portfolio and, as I said, our passion still remain and were key factors in my return, I’ve also noticed a heightened focus on the personal side of our business.
“We have this incredible whole of person approach to our business, we talk about our health and wellness and then we actually do it! Our wellness is so important personally but it also drives that high performance which I enjoy so much, because a healthy happy individual will always achieve better business results.
“I’ve been back with the business four months now and I can honestly say that working for an industry-leading business that is well known as a first adopted and which offers a huge breadth of opportunities, that is also genuinely people focused and supports its team, is a rare thing and one which certainly attracted me back and will keep me here.”
