Westfield Miranda opens market-style fresh food precinct and announces new dinning retailers

Scentre Group announced the first stage of its $475 million Westfield Miranda re-development will open on Thursday October 16 with the official unveiling of the new fresh food market. The new space on level one will transform Westfield Miranda into the epicentre of gourmet convenience in Sydney’s south.

Market-inspired stalls with crates of fresh food, expert food providores such as Pane Vinno Proscuitteria, a state-of-the art demonstration kitchen with live cooking demonstrations and daily-fresh produce on offer will deliver a true foodie experience to the daily shop.

The new fresh food market will feature 18 speciality suppliers including  fresh meats (Pryde Meats), seafood (Costi’s), poultry (Miranda Chicken),  fruit and vegetables (Fruitezy), baked goods from Bannos Brownies and Sourdough Bakery, wines and international cuisines as well as a brand new Woolworths supermarket.

Kate Holsgrove, Scentre Group Regional Manager said, “We are excited to welcome shoppers to the first stage of the Westfield Miranda redevelopment on October 16. The farmer’s market-style fresh food precinct will offer shoppers the most comprehensive selection of fresh and exotic foods in Sydney’s south with the convenience of a 90 minute express parking area.

“In redeveloping Westfield Miranda we have considered the culture, lifestyles and aspirations of our shoppers to create an inviting fresh food market that the Shire will love. The new precinct will appeal to foodies, families and the health conscious – whether they are picking up a few quick items for dinner or meandering around the market stalls and sampling the fare”, says Kate Holsgrove.

To celebrate the launch, the new fresh food market will host a festival of activities from 16 October including:

  • Cooking demonstrations from chefs and retailers

  • World-renowned author of ‘I Quit Sugar’ Sarah Wilson, appearing Saturday 18October

  • Create your own pancakes at the Pancake Bar on Saturday 18 October

  • Kids in the Kitchen – sushi making, Sunday 19 October

  • Food sampling and live entertainment

International food purveyors including Japanese Donburi vendor – Katsubi, Chinese dumpling house – Dainty Dumplings, Turkish food chain – Gozleme, Masaki Sushi and Vietnamese street food company – The Foodie House will offer an abundance of popular global cuisines within the fresh food market place.

“Opening stage one is an important milestone in the redevelopment of Westfield Miranda. Along with the 20 retailers in the new market-style fresh food precinct we will be opening over 30 specialty stores across homewares, fashion and beauty services including Wheel & Barrow and Mozi with more to come before to end of the year.”

The highly anticipated line-up of restaurateurs in the new indoor/alfresco dining space set to open late 2014 has also been confirmed: Sushi Bay, Din Tai Fung, Luxe, Kazbah, Mejico, Oliver Brown, Kelly’s Bar and Grill, Charm Kitchen, Gelato Messina, Georgie Porgie and The Italian Kitchen Miranda, with 6 additional restaurants opening on the rooftop in 2015.

The dining precinct will offer a relaxing and sophisticated atmosphere with entertainment throughout the day and evenings. The space curves around a 25 metre-tall Hills Weeping Fig Tree planted in 1971 and a water-feature with lush landscaping

On completion in 2015 the Westfield Miranda redevelopment will see the centre expand by approximately 19,000 square metres (sqm) to 127,000sqm of gross lettable area with the addition of more than 100 specialty retailers. In addition to the fresh food market and outdoor restaurant precinct, key features of the redeveloped centre will include:

  • A three level galleria fashion mall with some of the best domestic and international fashion brands, connecting between an upgraded David Jones and a fully refurbished Myer department store;

  • A relocated 10-screen multiplex Event cinema, including Gold Class and VMax;

  • Additional rooftop restaurants

  • Premium customer services including valet parking, free Wi-Fi and personal styling services.
