Westfield New Zealand is completing its life safety and structural checks of their Westfield Albany shopping centre after the tornado struck the Albany area at 3pm Tuesday 3 May 2011.
Due to the safety of our retailers and customers being of primary importance a methodical approach to reopening the centre is being undertaken.
Mr Justin Lynch, Director, Westfield New Zealand said: “We have been working closely with the local authorities to ensure the centre and surrounding environs are suitable for public access.
Whilst the centre has suffered some damage, a staged approach will be taken to reopening. We anticipate the majority of the centre will reopen from Noon today”.
Westfield New Zealand has confirmed that the evacuation procedures in place ensured our retailers and customers were safely evacuated from the centre.\n\n
