Westfield today announced that it had ceased defamation action against the NSW Leader of the Opposition, Mr John Brogden, over comments he made about Orange Grove.

Westfield accepts Mr Brogdens sincere position to be that at no stage did he intend to suggest that Westfield had bribed the Premier, a spokesman said.

The spokesman said Mr Brogden had apologised for the comments, made through a lack of understanding of their sensitivity to the Jewish community, as reported last month in the Australian Jewish News.

Westfield particularly notes that Mr Brogden extended his apology to Mr Frank Lowy personally.

The company considers the matter has now been resolved and will make no further comment about the legal proceedings.
