The opening today of Westfield Trust’s NZ$100 milliondevelopment at Glenfield Shoppingtown in Auckland signals thebeginning of a new style of retailing for New Zealand shoppers.

Westfield Shoppingtown Glenfield, the first of Westfield’sdevelopments to open in New Zealand, was officially opened today ina ceremony by the Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clark.

The Director of Westfield’s New Zealand operations, Grant Hirst,sees the opening of the new development as far more than an upgradeof shopping facilities.

“The opening of the Glenfield development is a leap into thefuture for retail in New Zealand,” he said.

“Our design team has worked with each retailer to providecustomers with the latest in store environments and stimulatingcolour schemes.

“We are excited that for the first time we are able to offer NewZealand shoppers a world-class shopping centre that incorporatesmany of the latest innovations of a Westfield Shoppingtown,” MrHirst said.

“In the open walkway areas and food court, the accent is onlight, space and style in the use of skylights, atrium voids andwood-panelled columns and balustrades.”

Grant Hirst believes shoppers will be delighted by the newdevelopment at Glenfield.

“I am sure customers will be excited by the range, variety andquality of retail being presented at Glenfield – we are reallylooking forward to welcoming them today,” he said.

Westfield Director Funds Management, Mr Victor Hoog Antink, saidWestfield Trust was delighted with the launch which is the first ofseveral redevelopments planned for its New Zealand Shoppingtownportfolio.

“The centre is fully leased and we are confident it willgenerate both rental growth and capital appreciation for theTrust’s unitholders,” he said.

As the largest shopping centre on Auckland’s North Shore,Westfield Shoppingtown Glenfield comprises 30,000 metres of retailspace. It includes 113 specialty stores, 1500 car parks and thelargest food court in New Zealand with 650 seats.
