Scentre Group Named On Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index For Fourth Year Running

Result represents Scentre Group’s multi-disciplined approach to addressing gender equity

Scentre Group today announced it is one of nine organisations in Australia and one of 485 globally to be included in the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). This is the fourth consecutive year the Group has been recognised for its approach to gender equity and improved its index score.

The Bloomberg GEI measures gender equality across five pillars: leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies and pro-women external brand.

Scentre Group’s 2023 GEI score of 79.4% is above the global average overall score of 72.94%. It is also above the REIT industry score of 69.38% (32 organisations) and above the average overall score of 75.19% for Australia.

Scentre Group Chief Executive Officer Elliott Rusanow said he is pleased with the company’s consistent recognition because it contributes to greater investor, employee, customer and stakeholder understanding of Scentre Group’s approach.

“Our result represents our highest score on the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index to date, well above the Australian average, the global average and our REIT industry peers,” said Mr Rusanow.

“Our year-on-year improvement is testament to our ongoing focus on embedding diversity, equity and inclusion into our culture and ways of working.

“Since Scentre Group was established in 2014, we’ve been committed to increasing female representation at all levels of management and across all functions. We take a multi-disciplined approach to addressing gender equity, including pay equity, recruitment practices and culture and our Gender Equity Working Group.

“We are well on our way to achieve gender equity across our business, and to meet 40% female, 40% male and 20% either gender (40:40:20) at all workplace levels by 2025.”

In 2022, Scentre Group implemented a range of initiatives to improve gender representation through its approach to recruitment, development and policies.

This included the second year of Scentre Group’s Emerging Female Leadership program for developing female talent for broader roles across the business. Approximately half of the participants have received a promotion or transfer to new teams to expand their skills.

General Manager Retail Administration and Gender Equity Working Group Lead, Katie Paull said: “The program creates a unique opportunity for participants to broaden their business acumen and showcase their skills.”

“Aligned to our strategy and company ambition, the program encourages creativity and learning. It is delivered in an environment where participants are supported and guided by the most senior leaders in our business to raise their future potential - so Scentre Group is the best place for talent to grow.”

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and communities of the lands on which our business operates.

We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to their Elders past and present.

We recognise the unique role of Māori as Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
