Scentre Group has introduced several new initiatives to further enhance safety and security within our 42 Westfield destinations across Australia and New Zealand, including at Westfield Bondi.
These include the introduction of vests and team safety cameras for our security officers, improvements to the Westfield Bondi Control Room, engaged paid police to bolster presence at Westfield Bondi, as well as enhancements to training, policies and procedures and ongoing technology trials to strengthen emergency response across our portfolio.

Strengthened security measures
Security vests have been implemented for all security officers and were rolled out within weeks after 13 April 2024.
Team safety cameras have been deployed to security officers, with an accompanying training program and policies.
Metal detection wanding has been conducted by NSW Police in shopping centres, including at Westfield Bondi, since May 2025. Police in other jurisdictions also carry out similar activity in other Westfield destinations.
Scentre Group has engaged a paid police presence at Westfield Bondi and continues to liaise with New South Wales Police regarding future arrangements.
Improved policies and procedures
With the comprehensive external review of the Scentre Group Emergency Response Guidelines (Red Book) in 2024, already described as best practice, there have been some updates and improvements.
Pre-recorded public announcements have been rolled out.
Clear policy and signage have been implemented in the Westfield Bondi Control Room directing that the Control Room must not be left unoccupied during core trading hours.
Scentre Group continues to explore how artificial intelligence technology can enhance situational awareness.
Enhanced training
Additional rehearsal training has been rolled out in all Westfield centres, involving simulated scenario exercises conducted after hours, and extending to more staff, including cleaners, concierge, and car park staff.
Chief warden training has been enhanced with a focus on self-regulation under pressure.
New online training modules have been introduced, including on active armed offender, emergency fundamentals, radio communications and protocols.
Mandatory pre-commencement training for security guards has been enhanced.
Supporting Federal Government public safety campaign – Escape.Hide.Tell
During 2025, we proactively supported the Australian Government in its launch of its public safety campaign, Escape. Hide. Tell, by displaying the critical message across our smart screen network within our Westfield destinations. We shared information about Escape. Hide. Tell with our business partners.
