Our CEO Elliott Rusanow was in South Australia this week alongside Premier The Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, Minister for Planning The Hon Nick Champion and Local Member for Lee David Wilkins MP.
The Government announced approval of the Group’s proposal to initiate the formal process to transform land surrounding Westfield West Lakes in Adelaide with the potential for up to 2,000 new homes close to jobs, infrastructure and services in the future. This is consistent with our strategy to unlock long term value from the Group’s strategic land holdings.
Elliott said: “Westfield West Lakes has been at the heart of its community since 1974, serving as the local town centre and a place where people come together.
“As the owner and operator of 42 destinations across Australia and New Zealand, we see an opportunity to work with government to better utilise our well-located land which is already close to jobs, services and existing infrastructure.
“We are excited about the role Westfield West Lakes can play in supporting housing supply while helping this community continue to grow and thrive for decades to come.”
Premier Malinauskas said: “This is what sensible, strategic development in exactly the right place looks like.
“We have been clear that Adelaide must grow up in the right locations as well as out in the right locations.
“That means height in locations already serviced by public transport, parking and infrastructure, and more space on suburban streets for larger homes and less congestion.
“Our Government laid the foundations for this kind of development in the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan. I commend the Scentre Group for having the ambitious vision to bring this to life.”
Minister Champion said: “The transformation of strategic, well-serviced infill sites like Westfield West Lakes will make a serious contribution to fixing the national housing crisis in South Australia.
“Homes above the shops, on a site that already has the roads, the buses, the car parking, amenity and the community services to support them. This plan makes sense.
“Once again our Government is embracing solutions to get more homes built for South Australians in the right locations.”
