Shopping centres are open – essential activities

Our Westfield centres remain open as we are regarded as ‘essential activities’.

This is because we have a role to play in ensuring community access to essential goods and services in a safe, hygienic environment throughout this period as well as supporting the economy and jobs.

Our centres include supermarkets, grocery stores, food markets , pharmacies, medical centres and other retail stores that provide essential services to our communities.

How we are adapting to government measures

In line with current Australian Government advice, cinemas, gyms and indoor sporting venues as well as pubs, entertainment venues and night clubs in our Westfield centres are closed. This was part of the measures effective midday Monday.

As of midnight tonight, any retail partners in our centres that are in these categories will close - beauty salons, massage, tanning salons, waxing salons, nail salons, tattoo parlours and spas.

Hairdressers and barber shops will remain open with the provision that appointments are up to two hours and the one person per four square metre rule applies in the premises.

Our food court retailers are permitted to operate takeaway for our customers, however food court seating areas are now closed and we ask that our customers respect these cordoned-off areas as dining in is not permitted. Some of our other restaurant and café retailers are also providing takeaway, if they can. When taking away, customers must practice social / physical distancing and there must be no gathering around takeaway venues.

Delivery and logistics in our centres

Regarding delivery, whilst some retailers have been required by government to close their doors to customers, they can still facilitate delivery and logistics. We have a number of retailers who operate Click ‘n Collect. They have the flexibility to make use of their stores as well as access our loading docks for these activities when our centres are open.

Social / physical distancing when in our centres

We recognise the critical importance of social distancing at this time.

Our retailers are expected to have signs that clearly display how many patrons they can accommodate in their space given the restrictions.

To help our customers maintain the recommended social distancing while in our centres, we have closed our kid’s play areas.

In our food courts which can offer takeaway and delivery, we are working with our retail partners to help facilitate appropriate space for customer queues and displaying relevant government health advice across our screen network.

Hygiene measures

We apply the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene across our Westfield Centres. We have increased the routine cleaning of frequently touched-hard surfaces, including in car parks. Single-use hand sanitiser is available at the Concierge desks and other locations around our centres.
