The reimagining of Westfield Knox is underway with transformation to occur in stages between 2022 and 2023
Scentre Group in conjunction with joint venture partner State Super, has today announced commencement of its $355 million (SCG Share: $178 million) redevelopment of Westfield Knox.
The staged redevelopment will transform the Westfield Living Centre into an elevated retail and lifestyle destination for Melbourne’s East.
The first stage will include the new fresh food market on Level 1, featuring a selection of new and existing retail partners and food catering experiences alongside new supermarkets; Woolworths and ALDI. The fresh food market is expected to open in late 2022.
The second phase will include the addition of the new 2,000sqm Knox public library, an elevated retail offer spanning a diverse mix of categories, from fashion to beauty, youth and homewares and a range of new uses. These include coworking facilities and recreational spaces for the community to enjoy.
New retail partner updates and details on the new community uses will be announced during the redevelopment.
In addition to the retail upgrades, the centre will undergo a comprehensive internal update entailing new flooring and finishes throughout, as well as upgraded customer amenities.
The project will showcase Scentre Group’s responsible business strategy, including a number of sustainability initiatives which will improve the centre’s energy, water and emissions intensity. The installation of a large rooftop solar system will generate onsite renewable electricity.
Scentre Group’s Director of Development, Stewart White said:
“Construction is now underway. This is the first step in bringing our vision for Westfield Knox to life.
“We have listened to our community and learned first-hand what they want to see and experience in their local Westfield centre and now we’re focussed on delivering a world-class living destination by the end of 2023.
“We’re looking forward to taking our customers on the journey with us and will have further updates, including new retail announcements and details on our community spaces, to share as works progress.”
Upon completion, Westfield Knox will have a gross lettable area of 144,810 square metres, and will feature seven major retailers, approximately 350 specialty retailers, opening in stages between the end of 2022 and 2023.
