Each year Scentre Group takes part in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), a national benchmark of LGBTQ workplace inclusion. Our employer ranking is based on a submission about our inclusion initiatives and the results of a survey completed by our people which gauges the impact of our work.

Chris Zerial, LGBTI+ working group lead, said: “We have participated in the Index since 2017 and this is the second time we have achieved Gold Employer status, which is the second highest ranking in the Index. Platinum is the very top tier, and can only be achieved once you have been Gold for 5 years.

“The Index sets a comparative benchmark for Australian employers. This means that as the employers leading best practice improve and raise the bar, all employers need to improve to retain their ranking, driving continual improvement and best practice.

“Scentre Group was a Silver Employer in the last AWEI Awards, so being recognised as a Gold Employer this year is really pleasing. It demonstrates that our culture is becoming more inclusive for the LGBTI+ community over time as we continue to focus on creating a safe and welcoming workplace where people can be themselves and feel they belong.”

In total, 33 employers across Australia have been recognised as Gold Employers this year with Scentre Group achieving Gold status alongside companies including Qantas, NAB, the ABC, Westpac, Amazon, KPMG and Stockland.

Alexis Lindsay, LGBTI+ Executive Sponsor, said: “This award is important because it’s recognition of our focus on being the place for talent to thrive through creating a culture of recognising and valuing everyone’s contributions, and being a safe and respectful workplace where everyone belongs.

“I want to thank all members of the LGBTI+ working group and our Ally network for their dedication and congratulate them on the positive impact they have had on our collective employee experience at Scentre Group.”

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and communities of the lands on which our business operates.

We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to their Elders past and present.

We recognise the unique role of Māori as Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
