Westfield Local Heroes is our primary community program where we shine the spotlight on those local individuals and organisations who work hard to drive positive impacts for their communities and the environment.

Our Westfield Local Heroes Program positively impacts local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups.

We’ve recognised a total of 15 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander finalists and awarded five Local Heroes during the five years of the program.

This Reconciliation Week, we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Ikonomou, a proud Dharug woman who is Westfield Sydney’s 2022 Westfield Local Hero for her work with Gunawirra supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children in Sydney's Inner West.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan 2022 – 2024

Scentre Group’s third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2022 – 2024, endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, reflects on the progress we’ve made and where we need to maintain and increase our focus to strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to bring about meaningful change.

Our Westfield Local Heroes program

Across Australia and New Zealand, Westfield will provide $1.26M in Westfield Local Hero grants in 2023.

Community members nominate their heroes and we select three finalists for each Westfield destination to go through to the community vote.

The successful hero for each of our 42 Westfield centres is awarded a $20,000 grant for the organisation or group they represent, and each finalist receives a $5,000 grant for their organisation or group.
