Westfield Chermside’s $355 million redevelopment was completed today with the opening of second stage works which included a dining, entertainment and lifestyle precinct featuring more than 20 retailers, and an additional 17 fashion and homeware retailers which opened in the new fashion galleria, bringing the centre’s total retail offer to almost 500 high quality retail, fashion, lifestyle and entertainment outlets.
The resort-style precinct is located in a landscaped outdoor setting adjacent to the fashion galleria that formed the project’s first stage which launched in April this year. Restaurant retailers in the new precinct include a mix of well-established food operators and unique local offerings, with Brisbane’s first Betty’s Burgers, Tapworks Bar & Grill, Daniel Ridgeway’s BiN 931, Hermosa by Olé, and Motto Motto sitting alongside Zeus Street Greek, Gelatissimo and San Churro, to name a few.
The precinct brings to the trade area a superior dining, entertainment and lifestyle offer that is set to become a genuine leisure destination for Brisbane’s north and capitalises on Brisbane’s temperate climate, providing an ambient atmosphere for customers to socialise, dine and recreate.
Scentre Group CEO Peter Allen said: “This opening marks the delivery of the major project in our redevelopment pipeline for this year. Westfield Chermside is now the biggest centre in our portfolio, with the most comprehensive retail, lifestyle and leisure offer in Queensland. The addition of key international and domestic fashion brands in the first stage launch, along with the lifestyle offer opening here today is providing local customers with a curated retail mix that is ideally suited to their tastes.”
Westfield Chermside’s first stage launch in April saw almost 50 fashion brands open in a newly added second-level to the retail centre, with headline brands such as Sephora, H&M and Zara attracting thousands of shoppers on opening day. The fashion galleria is completed today with the addition of 17 more apparel and homeware retailers, providing one of the best fashion and lifestyle retail destinations in the city.
In addition to the opening of a new LA-inspired fitness and wellness studio TotalFusion, the centre’s lifestyle and entertainment offer will be completed by a unique new education-based childcare operator Genius, whose offer on opening will include occasional childcare, allowing customers to shop while their children are cared for. In September the lifestyle mix will be expanded with the opening of the Kingpin entertainment complex which features bowling, dining, lasertag and karaoke, while the existing retail offer will be broadened with the arrival of drawcard international brand Uniqlo in October.
Westfield Chermside has increased by approximately 33,000 square metres (sqm) to 155,000 sqm in size, with a total 95 new retailers on completion of all works.
By the end of 2018 Westfield Chermside will be in a rarefied group of five Australian shopping centres which exceed $1 billion in retail sales (and the first in Queensland), four of which are part of Scentre Group’s Westfield portfolio.
