Embodied carbon

Embodied carbon are the greenhouse gas emissions associated with materials and construction processes throughout the life cycle of a building.

We acknowledge that decision making in the early planning and design phases for our Westfield destinations can greatly influence future carbon outcomes.

In 2022 we researched and evaluated built form initiatives that could address our carbon reduction commitments.

We will explore the integration of sustainable elements into our Development and Design Principles and the key questions to consider throughout our development stages. We will also work to understand the materiality of embodied carbon and Scope 3 emissions for our future developments and commence measurement.

We integrated responsible business into all aspects of our Westfield Knox transformation. The unveiling of the latest stage of the redevelopment saw this approach come to life as we focus on becoming essential to people, their communities and the businesses that interact with them.
