Executive Team

The Scentre Group executive team is headed by Peter Allen as CEO (the previous Group CFO of Westfield Group), Mark Bloom as CFO (the previous Deputy Group CFO of Westfield Group) and Greg Miles as COO (the previous COO of Westfield Group's US operations) together with the experienced Australian and New Zealand operating management team from Westfield Group. Scentre Group inherits Westfield Group's legacy as the industry leader in Australian retail property with a team that has unparalleled depth of knowledge, a track record of innovation and experience gained over more than 55 years owning and developing many of the leading shopping centres in Australia and New Zealand.

    Peter Allen Chief Executive Officer

    Peter Allen is an executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Scentre Group.  Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group in 2014, Peter was an executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Westfield Group.  Peter joined Westfield in 1996 and between 1998 and 2004 was Westfield’s CEO of the United Kingdom / Europe and responsible for establishing Westfield’s presence in the United Kingdom.  Peter is Chairman of the Shopping Centre Council of Australia and a Director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. He is a member of the President’s Council of the Art Gallery of NSW and is a member of the Property Male Champions of Change.

    Mark Bloom Chief Financial Officer

    Mark was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, he held the role of Deputy Group Chief Financial Officer of Westfield Group since 2005. Mark has over 30 years' experience in senior finance roles at large listed financial corporations.

    Prior to joining Westfield Group, Mark was Finance Director and a member of the Board of Liberty Group in Johannesburg where he was responsible for all aspects of Finance including Group Strategy, Legal, Treasury, Investor Relations and Mergers and Acquisitions.  At Westfield Group he was responsible for Group Treasury, Financial Reporting, Global IT and the Operational Finance functions across Westfield Group.  Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Witwatersrand and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

    Greg Miles Chief Operating Officer

    Greg Miles was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Scentre Group in November 2015. In June 2014 Greg was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Westfield Corporation, and prior to its establishment, was the Chief Operating Officer for Westfield Group’s US business since 2012. Greg joined Westfield in 1997 as Asset General Manager, New South Wales. Prior to joining Westfield, Greg was Property Investment Manager for Colonial First State Property, responsible for the development, management and acquisition of retail, commercial and industrial assets.

    Cynthia Whelan Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer

    Cynthia was appointed Chief Strategy & Business Development Office at Scentre Group in late 2017.
     
    Prior to her role at Scentre, Cynthia was the Group Executive responsible for Telstra’s new businesses portfolio since October 2015.  Previous roles at Telstra include Group Managing Director Strategic Finance covering Strategy, M&A, Treasury and Investor Relations, and she was also responsible for Telstra’s international operations from 2015-2016.

    Cynthia was Chair of the Foxtel Board from February 2017 until April 2018 and was also Chair of the Telstra Ventures Board until November 2017.
     
    Cynthia has had a career spanning more than 20 years in investment banking in the Asia-Pacific region prior to Telstra,  and her last role was the Chief Executive for Barclays in Australia/New Zealand. She has also previously held roles at Merrill Lynch and UBS and brings extensive corporate strategist experience in M&A, capital markets and lending.

    Cynthia graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Japanese studies.  She also holds a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Program in 2013.

    Paul Giugni General Counsel

    Paul was appointed General Counsel of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, Paul was General Counsel, Australia and New Zealand, Westfield Group. Paul joined Westfield Group in September 1998 and holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Sydney. Prior to joining Westfield Group, Paul was a solicitor at Freehill Hollingdale and Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills).

    Maureen McGrath General Counsel, Compliance & Secretariat

    Maureen was appointed General Counsel, Compliance & Secretariat of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group Maureen was General Counsel, Corporate and Compliance, Westfield Group. Maureen holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from the University of New South Wales. Maureen is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Andrew Clarke Director Finance & Investor Relations

    Andrew was appointed Director Finance and Investor Relations of Scentre Group in January 2017, having previously been Director Finance and Information Technology since June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group he was the CFO for Westfield Australia and NZ. Andrew joined Westfield Group in 2005, holding roles within the Australian Finance division. Prior to joining Westfield, he worked in the United Kingdom as Financial Controller for a global eBusiness organisation. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Business Commerce and Administration from the University of Victoria—Wellington, New Zealand and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in New Zealand.

    Janine Frew Director Human Resources

    Janine was appointed Director of Human Resources of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, Janine was the Director of Human Resources for Westfield Australia since December 2012. Janine joined Westfield Australia in 2007 as the HR Manager for Shopping Centre Management. In 2010 her portfolio expanded to include all operational Divisions, incorporating: Development, Design, Construction and Leasing. In 2011, Janine was appointed HR Director UK prior to the London Olympics and the opening of Westfield Stratford City. Before joining Scentre Group, Janine was Head of HR, Australia & NZ with the Coca-Cola Company, following a long tenure with the Coles Myer Group.

    Dudley Heywood Head of Tax

    Dudley was appointed Head of Tax of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of the Scentre Group, he was the Head of Tax for Westfield Australia since 2006. Dudley joined the Westfield Tax team in January 1998. Dudley is responsible for overseeing the Scentre Group's tax position in Australia and New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Chartered Tax Adviser.

    Ian Irving Director Design & Construction

    Ian was appointed Director of Design & Construction (D&C) of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group he was Director D&C of Westfield Australia since 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Building) degree from the Australian University of Technology Sydney and a MBA (executive) from the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM). Ian joined Westfield in 2004 as a General Manager of D&C, responsible for the delivery of a number of major Westfield Centre Projects throughout Australia including the management of the Westfield Sydney Project. Ian brings 25 years working experience in the construction industry to the business. Prior to joining Westfield, Ian held a number of senior management positions in national construction companies in Australia.

    David Lamond Director Strategic Analytics Insights and Research

    David was appointed Director Strategic Analytics Insights and Research of Scentre Group in October 2015. He has extensive experience in strategy, customer insight and analytics, having worked with Bain & Company (both in-house and as a senior advisor) over a span of sixteen years. Prior to joining Scentre Group David most recently assisted Walmart in the US, Japan and China to reset strategy. He has run customer engagement and business development functions at Woolworths and Myer.  David’s first career was in aerospace, where he worked as a Systems Engineer and Program Manager. David holds a Bachelor of Science (physics and computer science) from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Business Administration from Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

    Alexis Lindsay Director of Corporate Affairs

    Alexis was appointed Director of Corporate Affairs at Scentre Group in June 2018.
     
    Over the past 20 years, Alexis has built a reputation as a trusted adviser in her field, having worked for some of Australia’s leading organisations. Prior to joining Scentre Group, Alexis led Westpac Institutional Bank’s corporate affairs and sustainability team, and prior to that Westpac’s Business Bank corporate affairs team. Alexis has a breadth and depth of corporate affairs functional experience spanning senior leadership roles and advisory positions within large corporations and public policy and public affairs consulting firms.
     
    Alexis holds a Master of Arts, International Communication from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Arts, Communications from Charles Sturt University.

    Phil McAveety Director Customer Experience

    Phil was appointed Director Customer Experience of Scentre Group in July 2016.  He has a globally recognised track record in brand management and customer experience, having held senior executive roles at some of the most well-known global consumer brands, including Nike, and Camper International.

    Prior to joining Scentre Group Phil served as Executive Vice President/Chief Brand Officer for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, operating across a portfolio of major brands including Sheraton, Westin, St Regis and W Hotels. Phil was responsible for managing a global brand strategy with local execution with a heavy reliance on digital execution.

    Phil holds a BA (Hons) Economic History from Exeter University and an AMP (Executive MBA) from Harvard Business School.

    John Papagiannis Director Leasing & Retail Solutions and NZ Development

    John was appointed Director Leasing & Retail Solutions and NZ Development & Strategic Asset Management in late 2017. His career in the property industry spans nearly 20 years, and he was most recently Director of Development & Strategic Asset Management for Scentre Group since 2015. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group he was General Manager, Development for Westfield Group in Australia and was Director Leasing from 2009-2013.

    Talbot Sanderson Director Risk & Internal Audit

    Talbot was appointed Director of Risk and Audit at Scentre Group in April 2016. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, Talbot was Head of Risk Management for Westfield in Australia and New Zealand. Talbot joined Westfield in 1995,holding senior roles in centre management and security. Talbot holds a Bachelor in Agricultural Economics from Sydney University and from 1991 to 1995 worked as Political Adviser to the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Ian Armstrong, and later as Political Adviser to Armstrong as Leader of the NSW National Party.

    Richard Webby Director Technology

    Richard was appointed Director, Technology of Scentre Group in January of 2018.

    He has significant experience developing and integrating differentiating customer-facing solutions across multiple platforms and industries. Richard has previously held senior roles with company such as Travelocity.Com, Register.Com and Savos.

    Prior to joining Scentre Group, Richard served as the Vice President, Guest Experience Technology and Chief Information Officer Disneyland, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.
     
    Richard holds a Ph.D., Information Systems and a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and Information Systems from the University of NSW in Australia.

    Stewart White Director Development

    Stewart was appointed Director Development in January 2015. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, he was General Manager, Development for Westfield Australia. Stewart joined Westfield Australia in July 2002 as an Asset General Manager in Development. Stewart has over 19 years’ experience developing and managing shopping centres in Australia and has been involved in developments for a number of iconic centres in the Australian portfolio. He also assisted with the Westfield Group acquisition of Almeida Junior in Brazil in 2011.

    Richard Williams Treasurer

    Richard was appointed Head of Treasury of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of Scentre Group, he joined Westfield Group in 2005 and held the position of Group Treasurer since 2007.  Richard previously held senior treasury roles at AMP, where he was Head of Capital Markets, and Australian Industry Development Corporation.  Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UNSW and a Master of Business (Banking & Finance) from UTS.

    John Yates Director of Security

    John was appointed Head of Security of Scentre Group in June 2014. Prior to the establishment of the Scentre Group John was Head of Security of Westfield Australia since November 2013, following his retirement from the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) in November 2011 after a 30 year career. John’s last role was as the UK’s most senior counter terrorism officer and as the senior advisor to the Prime Minister and Home Secretary on all law enforcement related security matters. John also led the UK’s response to the South East Asian Tsunami for which he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal. In between leaving policing and joining Westfield Group, John spent time in the Middle East advising the government of Bahrain on police reform before joining G3, the Good Governance Group, a leading international strategic advisory firm, as their Group Executive Director.
